What does a Copywriter Do?
A copywriter is someone who writes copy for various sales, advertising, marketing, informational, and web pages. The main purpose of quality copywriting is to increase your conversions. A good sales page will generally identify a problem that your customer is having, tell a creative and relatable story, and provide your unique solution.
If you’re trying to understand how to market your business, then you need to understand how to effectively engage with customers through various marketing channels.
Whether you’re working on promoting a new advertisement, billboard, brochure, e-mail marketing campaign, catalogs, e-books, or social media content, a copywriter is responsible for providing the proper messaging that encourages users to take action.
Improving your creative copy can turn more visitors into more sales. This is extremely powerful when you factor in paid social promotion and organic reach. Creative copy can quickly convert more followers into your marketing funnel.
How does a copywriter work?
While writing is the main factor in copywriting, a majority of a copywriters time is spent researching and developing new content marketing ideas.
A copywriter will spend time researching your industry and target buyers’ personas to create content that speaks to them in a clear and concise way.
People are always being pitched new products through advertising every single day. If your copy is boring, your message will get lost in the dust just like everyone else. People value their time now more than ever, so it’s important to cut the chase and start with the information that your customers care about the most.
After the copywriter has spent time researching and creating a roadmap for your content, it’s time to start putting everything together.
If you’re working with a writing agency or content mill, they may have teams of writers with different roles. The content needs to be outlined, created, revised, edited, and proofread. Once the final piece of content is approved, it’s time to collaborate with the design team.
Copy and Design work hand in hand.
When you combine creative copy with an image or video that can capture the attention of your user, your more likely to connect with that person.
You want to hire a graphic designer that understands the importance of advertising and copywriting. (I have a guide on this coming later). One point I would like to make one looking for designers is to make sure you provide clear and concise instructions.
SEO Optimized Content
In this digital age, it’s important to understand that your website and content need to be optimized if you want people to discover your brand. A more experienced writer will generally understand how to optimize their content for you (and will be reflected in the price).
If you’re spending your time and money on “cheap” content, you’re going to have a bad time.
After hiring numerous writers on freelance marketplace websites myself, I’ve found that any time I’ve hired a cheap writer, I’m always spending more time making edits and adjusting the content myself. Unless you know exactly what kind of content you need, I would avoid using cheap content, as it may be doing more harm than good for your company.
